A Strengthened Partnership in the Fight Against Corruption – World Bank Signals Support for ACAT

The Anti-Corruption & Anti-Terrorism Agency (ACAT) welcomed a high-level visit from Mr. Patrick Kabuya of the World Bank, who expressed strong commendation for the Agency’s ongoing progress and operational development. Mr. Kabuya noted that ACAT’s concept of intelligence-led investigations, organisational education, and investment in secure digital systems represents a significant step forward in strengthening national integrity frameworks.

During the visit, Mr. Kaboya praised the Agency’s web-based reporting platform, describing it as an essential gateway for secure citizen reporting, whistleblower protection, and public cooperation in the national effort to combat corruption. He further observed that ACAT’s investment in systems capable of protecting complainants and preserving digital evidence is aligned with global best practices and demonstrates a clear commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust.

Mr. Kabuya also highlighted the need for continued expansion of public education, community engagement, and media outreach to increase awareness of the harmful effects of corruption on citizens, businesses, government finances, and national development. He noted that corruption not only erodes public confidence but also increases the cost of doing business and weakens opportunities for national growth.

In a strong show of partnership, Mr. Kaboya reaffirmed the World Bank’s willingness to support ACAT in areas such as training, information sharing, and public sensitisation initiatives. The Agency welcomes this commitment, which strengthens Barbados’ continued progress toward a modern, resilient, and effective anti-corruption framework.
